Jimothy became a viral sensation after videos showed the unusually chubby panda moving through Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. His rapid rise to fame inspired murals, artwork, arcade-style games, crowdfunding, and other local commemorative activities.

On July 26, 2026, Seattle officials held a public gathering to honor the animal and declared 2026 as “Jimothy Summer.” A local store then introduced the Rally Jimothy t-shirt, with a portion of the proceeds from each purchase going to support the PAWS Wildlife Center through August 31st.
